4. Zadarski festival monodrame | Klammov rat
Theatre

Literature professor Klamm comes before his class to give a class on Goethe's “Faust.” But students refuse to cooperate. His class declared war. What begins as a conflict between professors and students gradually grows into a psychological struggle in which the boundaries between authority, powerlessness, responsibility and guilt are blurred. The professor tries to defend himself with all the means at his disposal, while the students retaliate with silence. As communication disappears, so does the possibility for either party to clearly discern the truth. The monodrama by German author Kai Hensel, first performed in 2000, has seen more than a hundred international productions, and this is its first Croatian staging. In a powerful performance by Goran Grgić, we follow the gradual disintegration of a man whose authority is spinning out of control. A professor who wants to maintain his dignity and position of power is increasingly confronted with his own weaknesses, doubts and powerlessness. Klamm's war is both a personal drama and a critique of the education system. The play asks questions that go beyond the teacher-student relationship: what happens when we stop talking? Can authority be based only on power? And is there a winner in a conflict where no one is willing to listen to the other anymore? Tense, dark and emotional ionally strong, the play is about communication, empathy and the consequences of silence. Game: Goran Grgić Director: Dražen Krešić Author: Kai Hensel
