What happens when two stubborn people meet at a moment when they least expect love? Chekhov's Bear is a hilarious one-act story of love, pride, strife, and unpredictable twists and turns. In this version, Marko Cindrić takes on all three main roles on the scene – the stubborn landowner Grigory Stepanovich Smirnov, the young widow Jelena Ivanovna Popova and her loyal servant Luka. After her death, Popova locked herself in her room and vowed to remain faithful to him forever. Her peace is interrupted by the arrival of Smirnov, who demands that she repay his debt. The meeting of two temperamental and stubborn people soon turns into a conflict full of irony, anger and unexpected emotions. Through sharp humor, Chekhov makes fun of romantic ideals, male-female relationships and the human need to always be right. What begins as an argument gradually takes an entirely unexpected direction. In the solo performance, Marko Cindrić swiftly moves from character to character, creating three completely different characters and building a dynamic, physically demanding and extremely witty show. The Bear is a fast-paced, playful and satirical show about how thin the line between love and hate is – and how sometimes just one step is enough to change everything. Game: Marko Cindrić Director: Anton Pavlovich Chekhov
