Exhibition

The organizer of the exhibition is the Society for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage of Silba (Samotvorac), with the sponsorship of the City of Zadar and Zadar County, while the realization of the exhibition was provided by sponsors Tramak d.o.o., Heavy Duty and Arka – tailor-made furniture. The exhibition is the result of collecting, researching and processing photographs documenting life on Silba from the end of the 19th to the second half of the 20th century. Set in the open, in the public space of the place, it takes visitors through a hundred years of life of the island community – from the time when Silba was a vibrant island with more than a thousand inhabitants, to the period after the Second World War, marked by emigration and demographic changes. Photos bring authentic scenes of everyday life of Silbenjan – family life, childhood, schooling, maritime affairs, work, weddings, holidays, trick-or-treating and other important trades the women who shaped the life of the community. Through family portraits, school photographs, scenes of work and community, the rich cultural heritage of the island is revealed, as well as the way in which customs, values and identity have been passed down from generation to generation, while accepting the influences brought to Silba by its sailors and passengers. The authors point out that the exhibition is not only conceived as a historical overview of the island's development, but above all as a tribute tributes to people who created his identity with their lives.“This exhibition is not just a collection of old photographs, but a story of people who shaped Silba with their lives. The photos represent valuable historical resources, but more than that – they preserve family memories, everyday life and the identity of the island community. Our wish was to preserve these memories from oblivion and share them with all Silbanians, their descendants and visitors to the island, in order to get to know the rich cultural heritage of Silba through them."– Assoc. At the same time, it recalls the importance of preserving the family photographic heritage as a valuable part of the cultural memory of the island. The opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 9 pm, and the exhibition will be available to all visitors in the public space of the place during the summer months. We invite all those interested to join us at the opening and walk together through the century of life of Silba – under the same starry sky that has been connected for generations uncle Silbenjan.
