Kino Zona | Che Guevara: Posljednji drugovi
Thu 6 Aug, 21:00 · 📍 Centar za mlade

France 2026 94 mins After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, three guerrillas follow Che Guevara on his mission to spread the flames of an all-out uprising beyond the Caribbean island. Along the way, two more indigenous Bolivians join a tight-knit revolutionary troupe. In 1967, after an unexpected ambush and the final battle, which resulted in Che's CIA-backed execution, these unwavering shadow fighters are forced to flee Bolivia. In front of them is an incredible journey during which they will travel more than 2400 km of hostile and harsh terrain while being pursued by 4,000 soldiers, paramilitaries and Cold War spies. Sixty years later, Che's last surviving comrades recall e and share with us an untold story of perseverance, courage and loyalty in which the destinies of individuals were shaped by the geopolitical currents of the Cold War and the failed attempt to carry out a Marxist revolution throughout the Third World. A poignant historical lesson was presented by filigree binding of various audiovisual materials – relevant archive footage, impressionistic animated sequences, a subtle but penetrating narrative by Vincent Lyndon and exceptional interviews with living witnesses of history who have so far not had the opportunity to talk exhaustively about their magnificent adventure and the tragic loss of a beloved comrade and grieving comrade on the other side of the revolutionary icon which Che drove into after his death. A fascinating odyssey in the “time of embers” when the only light was seen on the horizon, a light evoked by the Cuban poet José Martí whom Che quotes in his famous Message to the Tricontinent, and which marks the ignition of revolutionary fervor on all three continents of the global south. After the screening, Subversive Festival artistic director Dina Pokrajac will talk to historian Bartula Covic em.
