The fourth edition of the Zadar Monodrama Festival brings the audience the award-winning play "Đuka Begović", based on the novel of the same name by the great Slavonian writer Ivan Kozarac. The play will be performed on September 1 at the Zadar Puppet Theatre, starting at 7 p.m.

 The author of the play is the prominent actor and director Ernest Srećko Berec, who transformed Kozarac's literary model into the theatrical form of a musical. The music is by Nenad Dan Kozig and Ivo Tijardović.

 Kozarac's "Đuka Begović" is one of the works that speaks powerfully about man, his inner conflicts, love and insatiable desire for freedom. Ivan Kozarac was a distinguished storyteller of the Slavonian village and life of Šokadija, and in his works he recorded social changes and customs of the time in which he lived. A special place in his work is occupied by the Slavonian landscape, love and freedom, as well as complex characters shaped by life circumstances.

 It was Đuka Begović, as one of Kozarac's most memorable characters, who served Ernest Srećko Berec as inspiration for a theatrical creation that brings the audience a combination of dramatic play, music, and strong emotional expression.

 This year's performance also has special meaning for the author of the play. Ernest Srećko Berec also opens the new theater season 2026/27, in the year in which he celebrates 50 years of professional work in theater, radio, television, and film.

 The arrival of "Đuko Begović" will thus be one of the significant programs of this year's 4th... Festival of monodrama in Zadar, which also with this title confirms the importance of monodrama as a space for strong acting expression and direct meeting between performers and the audience.

 The play "Đuka Begović" is scheduled for September 1st at 7 pm at the Zadar Puppet Theatre.

 Theater and literature lovers will have the opportunity to once again meet one of the most famous characters in Croatian literature, this time through the musical and stage vision of Ernest Srećko Berec.
